Russia keeping tabs on AP

The emotion of Tony McCoy’s final Grand National will be shared by a global audience and in Russia, they know all about the record-breaking champion.
Independent Content Services Ltd (ICS) has assembled a team of passionate Russian-speaking horse racing commentators who tell the folk back home all about AP’s legendary exploits during live daily coverage.
ICS has partnered with GBI to provide official expert presentation and commentary in a number of languages for a growing number of territories which have shown an interest in British and Irish racing.
ICS provides coverage of every race on the GBI channel and introduces new audiences to the spectacle of horse racing and the excitement of having a bet on the sport.
With easily digestible and compelling race analysis followed by commentary in a local style, the service is helping to introduce horse racing to an expanding international audience and the forthcoming Grand National is one of the key showcase events.
When McCoy bids for a second National win on his final ride in the race on April 12, following his success on Don’t Push It in 2010, he will be roared on in the CIS territories.
ICS’s Russian service was launched in 2014 and is headed up by former Russia State Radio presenter and producer Zhanna Zaytseva, who soon fell in love with the sport, as well as AP.
“I have been involved in sports broadcasting for many years in my native Moscow but the variety and drama of horse racing in the UK and Ireland is beyond anything else I had previously experienced,” Zhanna said.
“From the beginning I was won over by the sport and recruited a team of equally passionate broadcasters who were enthusiastic trainees and now have a great knowledge of horse racing.
“We see ourselves as ambassadors for British and Irish horse racing in Russian-speaking countries, and we are committed to giving listeners the most comprehensive insight into this exciting sport.
“Like me, many of them can’t wait for the Grand National to see so many top-class horses and jockeys taking each other on.
“The fixture is the epitome of British and Irish jump racing and it is a perfect opportunity for us to engage with our audience further, as well as to attract new listeners.
“The Grand National meeting also presents a great opportunity for new and existing clients to extend their horse racing coverage into multiple territories.
“Of course this year will be even more special as we know we will never see a jockey like AP McCoy again. I am just pleased fans in Russia and Russian speaking territories have got a chance to see him riding in the world famous race and listen to our commentary as the drama unfolds.”
The Russian service focuses on key players in the horse racing industry, like McCoy, to provide an engaging introduction for punters who are not familiar with the sport. ICS also provides more in-depth analysis for more seasoned Russian fans.
ICS Director Ian Holding said: “There is clearly significant potential for racing coverage in the CIS territories and our commentators’ enthusiasm shines through in the broadcasts, which help to engage the audience.
“They also help to provide a gateway to horse racing for emerging markets, encouraging people to place bets and follow all of the action as it unfolds.
“Zhanna loved racing from the first day she was introduced to the sport and even ended up marrying a horse racing commentator last year!
“The Grand National is a massive race around the globe and Zhanna and our Russian team are busy preparing ahead of the meeting. They can’t wait.”
